For Immediate Release: Business and Professional Women Meeting; Tampa Police Chief, Jane Castor to Speak

Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor will be the speaker at the Business and Professional Women’s Club meeting, Thursday, Sept. 2. Chief Castor will speak on non-traditional jobs and her experiences as Tampa’s police chief.
BPW St. Pete/Pinellas will also recognize Chief Castor during the meeting for her outstanding achievement as a woman in a non-traditional job and her exemplary performance of her duties during the recent tragedy that took the lives of two Tampa police officers.
Chief Castor is a pioneer in her profession. She was the first woman elected president of her police academy class 25 years ago. Her appointment to police chief (she commands a force of 1,000) was the culmination of several leadership roles in the department including patrol, narcotics, family violence, sex crimes, criminal l intelligence, and training.

Also, the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections office will have a table outside the meeting from 11:30 until 1:30 so that members, guests and general citizens can register to vote, change their voting addresses or ask questions. The table will also be set up for citizens before and during BPW meetings on Sept. 2 and Sept. 16.

BPW meets at 400 Beach Seafood and Tap House located at 400 Beach Drive NE in St. Petersburg. Networking begins at 11:30 a.m. and the meeting begins at 12 noon. Meetings are open to the public but reservations (see below) must be made by noon the Tuesday prior to the meeting. Cost: $16 for members and $21 for visitors.

Business and Professional Women Meeting; Richard Keane, Narrator for the Documentary, “Stock Shock” to speak

Richard Keane, narrator of the documentary, “Stock Shock”, will speak at the Thursday, July 1rst meeting of BPW Petersburg/Pinellas. Keane, a former postal worker, took his chances in the stock market and created the documentary to educate and inform other investors about his experiences. His documentary is available on DVD.

BPW ST. PETERSBURG/PINELLAS WINS BEST IN STATE! Picks up several more awards state wide.

[St. Petersburg, FL.-June 14, 2010] Business and Professional Women St. Petersburg/Pinellas won the Local Organization of the Year Award at the recent 2010 BPW State Convention held in late May. The award is highly prized and given to the local organization that is most well rounded in community outreach, has sound financial management, presents effective programs, and demonstrates the most effective public relations. There are more than 20 BPW local organizations in Florida.

BPW St. Petersburg/Pinellas also won the following awards: Individual Development, Issues Management and three Public Policy Awards including the Giraffe Award for the local organization that sticks its neck out by drawing attention to the need for pay equity; The Hortense K. Will Trophy for the LO that offers programs creating the best interest in government and policies and the Red Purse Award presented to the local organization that holds the best event highlighting the need for equal pay for women.
